A Democracy Day protest in Abuja turned chaotic after activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore reportedly collapsed during an altercation between demonstrators and police officers.
The protest, held at Unity Fountain, attracted citizens who gathered to express dissatisfaction over the country’s economic situation, insecurity and governance challenges.
The atmosphere reportedly became tense when security operatives attempted to disperse the protesters, firing tear gas into the crowd and forcing many participants to flee the area.
During the commotion, Sowore reportedly slumped, triggering concern among those present as supporters quickly moved to assist him.
He was later taken from the scene to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention and further assessment. The incident has since generated reactions from supporters and observers following the Democracy Day demonstration.
