Vice President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that some individuals allegedly tried to create distrust between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after they assumed office.

Speaking on Tuesday during the unveiling of “My Life of Duty and Allegiance,” the autobiography of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, Shettima said false claims were made against him barely three months into the administration.

According to the Vice President, certain people allegedly informed Tinubu that he was plotting to assassinate him and seize power.

He recounted that the President later invited him for a discussion over the allegations.

“Three months into our swearing-in, some people told Tinubu I was planning to kill him to take over power. The President had called me and said, ‘Sit down! Your people came to me and said stop wearing those Shettima clothes.’”

Shettima explained that Tinubu dismissed the claims after reflecting on the circumstances surrounding the clothes in question.

“But the President said their story did not add up. He said, ‘When you gave me those clothes, I was an aspirant. I would not have been the candidate, neither were you going to be the vice-presidential candidate.’”

He added that despite being warned against wearing the outfits, Tinubu continued to use them because he did not believe in such claims.

“Some people told him after the election that I was planning to use the clothes to kill him and take over. However, Tinubu wore the clothes after that because he is not fetish.”

The event took place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where Shettima represented the President as Guest of Honour.

Other prominent figures present included former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, governors, military officers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.
