The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has concluded the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with former Labour Party flagbearer Peter Obi emerging as the only aspirant who obtained the forms.

Party insiders confirmed that Obi submitted his application before the deadline on Sunday, May 17, 2026, effectively making him the sole contender for the party’s presidential nomination.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, recently joined the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has continued to draw attention within Nigeria’s evolving political scene ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement, the NDC National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said while the presidential form sales window has closed, the party has extended the deadline for governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly aspirants to May 24, 2026.

Screening of all aspirants is set to commence on May 19 and will run until May 26, 2026, after which successful candidates will advance to the next stage of the selection process.

Applicants are required to present academic certificates, voter’s card, birth records or sworn age declarations, passport photographs, party membership proof, and six copies of their CVs.

The party also stated that the screening exercise will assess competence, integrity, grassroots appeal, zoning considerations, and local political factors, alongside provisions for women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

With no other presidential contender entering the race before the deadline, Peter Obi is widely expected to secure the NDC ticket, pending successful clearance from the screening process.
