Jorge Jesus is set to become the new head coach of Portugal after reportedly reaching an agreement with the Portuguese Football Federation.
According to ESPN, the 71-year-old will sign a four-year contract that will keep him in charge of the national team until June 2030. His appointment is expected to be officially confirmed soon.
Jesus replaces Roberto Martínez, whose tenure ended after Portugal’s disappointing Round of 16 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain.
The appointment will mark the first time in Jesus’ coaching career that he has taken charge of a national team.
The experienced manager recently guided Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr to the league title, working with Portugal internationals Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix during his time at the club.
Over the course of his career, Jesus has enjoyed successful spells with Benfica, Sporting CP, Flamengo and Fenerbahçe, winning league titles in Portugal, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
