Christian Eriksen will continue his recovery in his native Denmark after collapsing during an international friendly last month, with his club, Wolfsburg, confirming he will miss the start of pre-season.
The 34-year-old midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest after collapsing and clutching his chest while representing Denmark against Ukraine in a friendly.
Eriksen, who previously survived a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 and has since been fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), was reportedly saved once again when the device detected the dangerous heart rhythm and delivered a life-saving shock.
Despite renewed concerns over his health, there has been no indication that the Danish star plans to retire from football.
Confirming his rehabilitation plans, Wolfsburg said, “Christian Eriksen will soon begin an individual rehabilitation programme. After a conversation with VfL managing director Dieter Hecking, it was decided that the 34-year-old will complete this in his home country of Denmark.
“VfL is in regular contact with Christian as well as the treating physicians. For the course of his rehabilitation, we continue to wish Christian all the best.”
