France booked a place in the FIFA World Cup semifinals after defeating Morocco 2-0 in Thursday’s quarterfinal clash.
Kylian Mbappé bounced back from a first-half penalty miss to score once and provide an assist, while Ousmane Dembélé added the second goal to seal the victory for Les Bleus.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 60th minute, netting his 20th career World Cup goal to move within one of Lionel Messi’s all-time tally. Dembélé doubled France’s advantage six minutes later with his fifth goal of the tournament.
The result sends France into the semifinals, where they will face either Spain or Belgium in Dallas on Tuesday.
It also marked another victory over Morocco after France defeated the Atlas Lions 2-0 in the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Les Bleus are now on course to become only the third nation in history to reach three consecutive FIFA World Cup finals.
