British-Nigerian rapper Skepta has condemned the interaction between a grown man and North West, the 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, after a video from Paris Fashion Week went viral online.
The clip, which was recorded at the Vetements Menswear Spring/Summer 2027 show in Paris, showed North appearing to offer the man a handshake before he instead embraced her and posed for a photograph.
Weighing in on the incident via X, Skepta argued that North’s body language clearly showed she wanted a handshake and said adults should respect the boundaries of children.
“A blind man could see she wanted a handshake.”
The rapper also admitted that he rarely comments on other people’s affairs but said the incident left him disturbed because of the way strangers interact with the teenager.
“My fans know I try to stay out of people’s business but damn the way grown men, complete strangers, try to use North makes me sick.”
After another X user suggested that hugging was not a problem, Skepta stressed that his concern was not about the hug itself but about ignoring the child’s clear gesture.
“She is 13 years old and she put her hand out for a handshake, you don’t ignore that.”
He concluded by urging parents to be more protective of their children, especially those growing up in the public eye.
“Protect your kids people. Protect your kids!”
