The House of Representatives has approved a $516.3 million syndicated loan from Deutsche Bank AG to support the first section (Phase 1A and 1B) of the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway.

The approval followed the adoption of a report by the House Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, presented the report and urged lawmakers to back the request, emphasizing the significance of funding the 120-kilometre stretch of the road project.

Before the adoption, Abdullahi El-Rashid, who represents Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in Gombe State, moved the motion for its consideration, describing the highway as vital to strengthening economic links across the country. The motion received support from Bello Isah Ambarura of Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency in Sokoto State.

Lawmakers later moved into the Committee of Supply, where they examined the proposals in detail and approved each recommendation. The House subsequently reconvened in plenary and ratified all five resolutions, including the loan approval and its incorporation into the Federal Government’s rolling borrowing plan.
