Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Kátia Aveiro, has hinted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could mark the end of the football icon’s international career with Portugal.
Speaking ahead of Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia in the Round of 32, Aveiro said she believes her brother is preparing to bid farewell to the national team after the tournament.
“I truly believe this is the farewell, so make the most of it because it’ll be hard to find someone like him again,” she told Sport TV.
“The information I have is very reliable. I believe this is the last dance, so let’s enjoy it.”
She clarified that her comments referred only to Ronaldo’s future with Portugal and not his club career with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
Aveiro also praised the five-time Ballon d’Or winner for his remarkable contribution to football over the past two decades.
“Anyone who is truly intelligent, who understands football and genuinely loves football, has to admire Cristiano Ronaldo.
“If you don’t like Cristiano Ronaldo, then you don’t like football.”
Reflecting on his journey, she said Ronaldo’s achievements were the result of years of dedication and sacrifice.
“Ronaldo has been working incredibly hard for more than 20 years.
“We’ve lived through so much. We’ve achieved so much.”
