Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has intensified calls for accountability over recent military airstrikes, urging the Senate to launch a formal investigation into the incidents.

Reacting to reports of civilian casualties, Gumi argued that repeated apologies and condolences from authorities are no longer acceptable, stressing the need for answers and transparency. He questioned the handling of such operations and those responsible for carrying them out, pointing to past cases in Tudun Biri, Nasarawa, Sokoto and other affected communities.

“Who are the pilots behind these bomb releases on innocent locals?”

The cleric maintained that similar tragedies have occurred over time, including the December 2023 bombing in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, which left many residents dead.

“Terror cannot be fought with another terror. There should be an immediate Senate hearing on these so-called ‘mistakes’ on bombing villages, markets and civilian targets. We need answers, not condolences.”

His remarks come after reports that a fresh airstrike struck a weekly market in Jilli village, located between Borno State and Yobe State on Saturday evening.

However, Babagana Umara Zulum has disputed the claims, stating that the market in Jilli, within Gubio Local Government Area, had been inactive for about five years.
