President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025 into law, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Onanuga, the President assented to the bill a day after it was passed by the National Assembly. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives approved the amendment on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The extension is expected to give Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects and fully utilise funds appropriated for the 2025 fiscal year.
The Presidency said the move would also ensure that key government programmes are implemented without disruption as the additional time allows for the completion of outstanding projects and expenditure.
Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for the swift passage of the amendment, describing the development as a demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in the interest of the country.
