Troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully rescued Mrs. Abubakar, the wife of retired Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, following a fierce encounter with armed bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a report shared on his official X account on Monday night, detailing how the rescue operation was executed.
According to him, the mission was carried out under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III after intelligence reports indicated the movement of the abductors within Matazu and nearby communities.
He explained that troops, acting on the intelligence, launched a search-and-rescue operation that led to contact with the bandits at Tunga village.
Security sources said the armed group opened fire before fleeing under intense military pressure, abandoning the abducted victim during the confrontation.
“The bandits shot her and fled when we made contact at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding. We have given her first aid and are moving her for urgent medical attention,” a military source was quoted as saying.
She has since been evacuated for medical treatment, while operations are reportedly ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects in the area.
