The Governing Council of University of Port Harcourt has approved the appointment of Prof. Princewill Chike as the institution’s 10th Vice-Chancellor.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the university’s spokesperson, Dr. Sam Kpenu, Chike will officially take over on July 13, following the completion of the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill.
Kpenu explained that the appointment was ratified by the university’s 17th Governing Council after the successful conclusion of the selection exercise.
He noted that the process was carried out in line with the provisions of the relevant laws governing the appointment of vice-chancellors in Nigerian universities, including the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and the University of Port Harcourt Act.
The exercise involved a Search Team and a Joint Council-Senate Selection Board, both of which oversaw the recruitment process in accordance with established regulations.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, congratulated Chike on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to provide the leadership needed to advance the institution’s growth and development.
Before his appointment, Chike served as Commissioner for Health in Rivers State during the administration of former governor Nyesom Wike.
