Actor Yul Edochie has said he does not need the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) to validate his talent or success in the movie industry.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Edochie addressed conversations around his failure to win the prestigious awards, arguing that recognition from a small group of judges should not define an actor’s worth.
He maintained that his confidence in his craft remains unshaken, adding that some of his performances from four to six years ago are yet to be matched by other actors.
The Nollywood actor also described himself as one of the best in the industry, while noting that he avoids calling himself the greatest out of respect for his father, veteran actor Pete Edochie.
Edochie stressed that he has no problem with the AMVCA organisers and is not under any pressure regarding awards or nominations.
He added that he has never publicly complained about being overlooked, saying he is focused more on his craft than recognition.
According to him, his priority is to deliver strong performances in every role he takes on, leaving audiences and critics to judge the outcome.
He further stated that public opinion or personal criticism does not affect his mindset, as he remains committed to growth and consistency in his acting career.
