The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the immediate halt of activities known as “after-party” and “hot challenge” at weddings and other social events held in event centres across the state.
The directive was announced by the board’s Executive Secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, through a statement released on Saturday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sulaiman.
According to the board, the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce regulations guiding the operations of event centres and masters of ceremony in Kano State.
The statement noted that the board had observed a growing trend of the activities, describing them as foreign cultural practices that have increasingly found their way into wedding celebrations in the state.
It explained that the suspension was introduced to protect Kano’s cultural heritage, moral standards and religious values.
The board added that the move aligns with its responsibility to regulate entertainment activities and ensure public events reflect the traditions and beliefs upheld in the state.
While announcing the ban, the board stressed that it remains open to decent and responsible entertainment at weddings and other gatherings, as long as such activities uphold good morals, respect local culture and comply with religious principles.
