The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate return of Omoyele Sowore’s international passport after dismissing cybercrime charges filed against him by the Nigeria Police Force on behalf of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Presiding judge Justice Musa Liman struck out the case on Tuesday, following an application by Sowore’s lawyers, who argued that the prosecution had failed to actively pursue the matter since his arraignment in January 2025.

The charges were linked to Sowore’s social media posts, in which he referred to Egbetokun as the “illegal IGP,” an allegation the police described as cyberbullying and incitement.

With the dismissal, the court ordered the release of Sowore’s passport, which had been held as part of his bail conditions for over a year. His legal team collected the document shortly after the ruling.

Sowore hailed the decision as a victory against what he described as a politically motivated prosecution, emphasizing that he had consistently demanded the return of his passport throughout the case.
