Newcastle United have officially named Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, replacing Eddie Howe at the helm of the Premier League club.
The 38-year-old German arrives from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, where he enjoyed a successful spell. Although he has won major honours in Austria and Saudi Arabia, the Newcastle job marks his first opportunity to manage in one of Europe’s top-flight leagues.
Speaking after his appointment, Jaissle said he was delighted to take charge of the Magpies.

Jaissle’s playing career ended prematurely at the age of 25 because of injury, leading him to transition into coaching.
He started his managerial journey with Austrian club Liefering before taking over at Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, where he guided the club to two consecutive Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup triumph.
In 2023, he joined Al-Ahli and went on to lead the Saudi club to AFC Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026.
