The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has rejected claims of factionalism within the Peoples Democratic Party, insisting that the party remains united.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday after inspecting ongoing FCT projects, Wike acknowledged that some level of dissatisfaction is natural in any political organization but emphasised that it does not indicate the formation of separate camps.
He noted that reconciliation efforts are ongoing ahead of the PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, adding that dialogue can continue even after the convention concludes.
“That there is convention doesn’t mean there will be no reconciliation. Convention will go on; everything has its own time,” Wike said.
Addressing the notion of rival factions, the Minister clarified: “Regarding whether any group has reached out, I must say that I am not aware of any separate camp. There’s only one PDP. So it would be wrong for me to say the other camp. I don’t know whether any other camp exists. As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP and it will be incorrect to suggest otherwise.”
Wike also highlighted that party primaries are scheduled from April 23 to May 13, following the guidelines of the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission, stressing that the timeline allows little room for delays.
