Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday paid a condolence visit to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai at his Abuja home following the passing of his mother.
The elder matriarch was said to have died on Friday afternoon after battling age-related health issues that had deteriorated in recent times.
It was gathered that El-Rufai was released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission shortly after news of her death broke.
In the wake of the loss, several high-profile political figures had earlier visited to sympathise with him, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, alongside other opposition leaders.
Meanwhile, an associate of the former governor, Bashir Garba Sufyan, has revealed how El-Rufai spent his time while in detention. According to him, the ex-governor focused heavily on spiritual devotion and personal development throughout the period.
“Alhamdulillah, Mallam is home with his family, friends and associates. The first thing he told us was that, since his detention, he had been fasting until yesterday.
“He also completed the Holy Qur’an while in detention, read 10 books, and has written some as well. And you wonder why he’s great and undefeated.”
