President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed Mr Saidu Mohammed from his role as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

To fill the vacancy, the President has nominated Mr Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new head of the agency, with his appointment subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the removal of Mr Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in the public interest.”

According to the statement, the decision is in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and is aimed at improving regulatory performance within the midstream and downstream segments of the petroleum sector, in keeping with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Umar, who has been nominated to take over the position, is described as a seasoned professional with more than 25 years of experience across the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure industries. He earned a degree in Accounting from Bayero University Kano and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
