Residents of Ekpoma in Edo State have been left in shock following the killing of businessman Justice Oshioke, who was shot dead just hours before the dedication ceremony of his newborn child.

Oshioke, who was the Chief Executive Officer of a popular fast-food outlet, Principle Takeout, was reportedly attacked on Saturday night by suspected kidnappers.

He was said to have been ambushed around the Idumebo area of Ekpoma while heading home.

According to an eyewitness who spoke anonymously, the attackers attempted to abduct him, but he resisted.

“The attackers tried to drag him into the bush, but he resisted, and he was shot

“People rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” the source said.’

The incident occurred barely a day before his child’s dedication, deepening the pain of the tragedy and sparking renewed concerns over insecurity in the area.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the killing through its spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, who described it as a tragic loss.

“The Edo State Police Command is deeply saddened by the tragic murder of Justice Abu Oshioke. He was fatally shot by unidentified armed men on 2nd May 2026 at about 9:55 p.m. at Idumebo, Ekpoma,” she said.

She added that he was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full investigation to track down those responsible for the attack.
