Chelsea have been hit with a suspended one-year ban on signing first-team players and an immediate nine-month restriction on academy transfers after breaching Premier League financial rules.

The sanctions relate to incomplete financial reporting and missed payments during the Roman Abramovich era, but do not affect Chelsea’s compliance with current Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The club self-reported the breaches, which the Premier League said was taken into account when issuing the punishment. Chelsea’s “exceptional cooperation throughout the investigation” was cited as a “significant mitigating factor.” No points deductions or other sporting penalties were applied. The first-team signing ban is suspended for two years, meaning Chelsea can continue registering senior players provided no further violations occur.

The academy transfer ban takes effect immediately, preventing the registration of players tied to other English academies for nine months. Current academy players and foreign signings are not affected.

In addition, Chelsea were fined a record £10 million (€11.6m). The club has accepted the sanctions and stated that it considers the matter concluded.
