The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the detention of an Assistant Superintendent of Police over a viral video in which he allegedly threatened to shoot members of the public who recorded him while on duty.

The incident was made public on Friday through a statement issued in Awka by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to the statement, the command condemned the officer’s behaviour after the video surfaced online, describing it as conduct that falls short of the standards expected of a police officer.

The statement noted that the officer was quickly identified and arrested after an internal review of the footage showed him making violent threats and acting in a manner deemed unprofessional.

“The police wish to address the public on a video currently circulating on social media, in which a police officer was seen threatening violence and engaging in conduct unbecoming of a member of the Nigeria Police.

“Following a review of the video, the command identified and arrested the officer involved. The officer is an Assistant Superintendent of Police serving in the command.”

Ikenga added that disciplinary measures have already been activated against the officer in line with the ethical code of the Nigeria Police Force.

He also disclosed that the officer has been subjected to drug testing as part of ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering all circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring a transparent process.
