Nigerian gospel singer, Adeyinka Alaseyori, has apologised following backlash over her comments and prayer video concerning the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

The singer had appeared in a video urging Nigerians to pray for the safety and release of the kidnapped victims, but the clip sparked criticism online, with some Nigerians describing her remarks as insensitive amid the ongoing insecurity situation in the country.

Following the reactions, Alaseyori clarified that the viral clip was taken from a longer prayer session and did not fully represent her message.

She explained that the original recording was a 1-hour 30-minute video dedicated to prayers for kidnapped children, grieving families, government officials, security agencies, and the nation.

She said:

Two days ago, I released a 1hr 30min video praying for k!dn@pp£d children, grleving families, government officials, the military, and our nation, Nigeria.

Yesterday, I woke up to see that some well-meaning Nigerians felt offended, unseen, and unheard because of how the video was edited. The version that circulated was cut down from the original 1hr 30min recording.

Mothers, please forgive me. I beg you in the name of Jesus. I would never intentionally make anyone feel unseen or insens!t! ve. May you never use your hands to bvry your children. All mothers will eat the fruit of their labor.

If my words offended you, please forgive me. God bless you.

The singer’s apology has since drawn mixed reactions online, with some accepting her explanation while others insist the initial video was poorly received regardless of the editing context.
