A video showing two elderly men being held by suspected bandits in Kebbi State has surfaced online, sparking concern among residents and social media users.
The victims were identified as a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko-Besse Local Government Area and another man identified as Yahya. In the footage, the pair appealed to their families, community members and government authorities to intensify efforts toward securing their freedom.
Speaking in the video, the former APC chairman revealed that both men were battling health challenges and that their condition had worsened while in captivity.
He explained that he depended on regular medication and expressed concern over the impact of their prolonged detention on their health.
The elderly man further disclosed that despite their age and medical conditions, they had been forced to trek through forests alongside their captors.
Yahya also made an emotional appeal for assistance, saying they had spent a long time in captivity without being rescued.
Both men called on their relatives, associates and relevant authorities to take urgent steps to secure their release and reunite them with their families.
The video has once again highlighted growing concerns over the persistent threat of kidnapping and banditry in parts of northern Nigeria. As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement regarding the video or the status of the victims.
