Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over the country’s security challenges, arguing that insecurity has been a longstanding problem that did not begin under the current administration.

Speaking to journalists, Umahi cautioned against turning security issues into political weapons, stressing that protecting lives and property should be a shared responsibility among all Nigerians.

The former Ebonyi State governor expressed concern over what he described as the tendency for insecurity to worsen whenever election seasons approach, suggesting that such periods often witness increased violence and unrest.

“It’s appalling when people talk about insecurity, especially extreme politicians, and insult President Tinubu.

“Insecurity didn’t start with this administration. It is very unfortunate. Security is the job of everyone. Security should not be politicised.

“Why is it that anytime we are approaching elections, there is heightened insecurity? It is very unfair. Anyone who takes the life of another person under any guise, God is watching,” he said.
