Reality TV star and actress Bambam has addressed reports surrounding the theft of her phone during the service of songs held for late actor Alexx Ekubo, while also defending her personal assistant against accusations circulating online.
Speaking in a video, Bambam explained that she attended the event to honour Alexx Ekubo’s memory and celebrate the impact he had on the lives of those around him.
“Yesterday we went to celebrate the life of Alexx Ekubo and right after the ceremony was over, all exchanging pleasantries, walking, just being grateful for the life he lived. I’ve learned so much from Alexx’s life. How can someone be so perfect? Every life he touched was an encounter. Nobody had anything less to say but how he impacted them,” she said.
The actress revealed that she only realised her phone was missing after leaving the venue. She also responded to a viral video showing a woman taking a phone from her bag, clarifying that the woman was her personal assistant trying to protect the device from being stolen in the crowded environment.
“I’ve seen videos circulates about a lady moving her phone from my bag. That was my personal assistant because that place was rowdy and the bag I was carrying was open. She just thought to remove my phone so that it’s not stolen,” she explained.
According to Bambam, her assistant was unable to hand the phone back to her immediately because of restrictions around the VIP section. She said she initially assumed the device was with her assistant until they both discovered it was missing.
Recalling the incident, she said the phone may have been stolen while attendees were exchanging greetings and taking photos after the event.
The actress admitted she was heartbroken over the loss, especially because the device contained years of personal memories that had not been backed up.
“I was sad first. I was really sad that my contacts, my videos… I’ve had that phone, it has everything. They’re not even updated on my iCloud, so a lot of my pictures and videos are not backed up,” she said.
Bambam further disclosed that she was not the only victim, claiming that several other phones disappeared that night, including those belonging to friends and individuals connected to Alexx Ekubo’s family.
“It wasn’t just my phone that was stolen… A few of us were looking for our phones that night. It was sad,” she said.
She urged the public to stop blaming her personal assistant, stressing that the phone went missing after the event and that the viral footage being shared online has been misinterpreted.
Bambam said she decided to clear the air to prevent misinformation and ensure her assistant’s reputation is not unfairly damaged.
