Colombia secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory over DR Congo in their Group K clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, thanks to a second-half strike from Daniel Munoz.
The encounter, played at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico, remained finely poised for long periods as both teams produced disciplined defensive displays.
Colombia controlled possession and looked the more threatening side in attack, while DR Congo stayed compact at the back and attempted to catch their opponents on the break.
Neither team managed to find a breakthrough before halftime, with clear-cut chances proving scarce.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 76th minute when Juan Quintero picked out Daniel Munoz with a well-timed pass, and the defender calmly finished to hand Colombia the lead.
DR Congo responded by pushing more players forward in search of an equaliser, but Colombia stood firm defensively and successfully held on for all three points.
The contest also saw several bookings, with Colombia’s Jhon Lucumí and Jefferson Lerma, along with DR Congo’s Charles Pickel, cautioned for fouls during the fiercely contested match.
Munoz’s decisive goal ensured Colombia emerged victorious from a tightly fought encounter and strengthened their position in the race for a place in the knockout rounds.
