The management of Abia State University (ABSU) has suspended Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, with immediate effect.
The suspension followed comments made by the lecturer on Facebook concerning the earnings of university professors.
Nwaeze alleged that some professors at the institution receive less than ₦400,000 monthly. He further stated that the combined income of some commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke riders, is higher than the salaries earned by professors at ABSU.
In response, the university management described the lecturer’s social media publications as statements capable of harming the interests and reputation of the institution.
The suspension was communicated in a statement signed by Chijioke Nwogu, the university’s Public Relations Officer and Deputy Registrar.
The institution also announced the formation of an investigative panel to look into the matter.
