Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved Friday, August 14, 2026, as a work-free day for public servants across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The directive was communicated in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and shared on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on X.
The state government said the measure would give workers who need to travel enough time to return to their polling areas and participate in the election.
The holiday applies to all categories of public service workers, except personnel assigned to emergency and other essential duties.
Adeleke also called on workers, their family members and friends to participate actively in the election and protect their votes in support of what he described as continuity in Osun.
Speaking ahead of the poll, the governor praised organised labour and state workers for their backing of his administration, describing the relationship between his government and the workforce as mutually beneficial.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies,” Adeleke said.
