Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports claiming he intends to quit active politics, describing them as false and part of a deliberate disinformation campaign.
In a statement released Monday by his media office in Abuja, the ADC chieftain accused the Federal Government of Nigeria of being behind the rumors, aimed at creating confusion and misleading the public.
The statement said: “Information circulating on social media suggesting that Atiku Abubakar held a meeting with ADC stakeholders and decided to ‘step aside and retire from active politics’ is entirely false and deliberately misleading.
“The Waziri Adamawa has not recently held any national-level meeting of this nature. His only recent engagement was with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State last Thursday.”
Atiku’s office stressed that any decision to exit politics would never be announced through unverified sources or social media, but only through official channels.
“This latest falsehood bears all the hallmarks of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to confuse the public and dampen political momentum. Only the government and its agents could sponsor such a narrative out of fear of what is coming,” the statement added.
It further urged supporters, ADC members, and well-meaning Nigerians to ignore the report and remain focused on efforts to reclaim and rebuild the nation.
