President Bola Tinubu on Monday hosted Benin Republic’s newly sworn-in President, Romuald Wadagni, at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

A brief statement issued by the Presidency said the meeting marked the first official bilateral engagement between the two leaders since Wadagni assumed office last week.

The Beninese leader arrived in Lagos and was received by Babajide Sanwo-Olu before proceeding to Tinubu’s residence for talks.

Both presidents later held a private meeting that lasted about 30 minutes, although details of their discussions were not disclosed.

Wadagni’s visit comes shortly after he was inaugurated on May 24, 2026, following his victory in Benin Republic’s April 12 presidential election. He succeeded Patrice Talon as the country’s leader.
