Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 election after emerging as the party’s sole aspirant in the primary election.

Chinda became the only candidate left in the contest after Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and Alabo Dakorinama George-Kelly reportedly withdrew from the race on Wednesday night.

The chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Committee, Kwamoti Bitrus, announced that Chinda secured a total of 268,497 votes during the exercise.

Bitrus commended party members for their participation and praised election agents for their commitment throughout the process.

He also appreciated the state leadership of the APC for creating what he described as a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the primary election.

Chinda currently represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and serves as the Minority Leader of the 10th Assembly.

The lawmaker was originally elected into the National Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
