Former Kano State governor and leader of the National Democratic Congress, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed rumours claiming he is secretly backing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview with Global TV, Kwankwaso described the allegation as baseless, insisting that neither he nor his supporters are working for the president.
“Only fools will believe that we are working for Tinubu. My supporters and I are working for the NDC and for what we believe will benefit Nigerians.”
Kwankwaso explained that although he and Tinubu have maintained a relationship over the years, it does not mean they belong to the same political camp or share the same vision.
According to him, their long-standing acquaintance should not be mistaken for political alliance.
The former presidential candidate also alleged that some individuals close to the president are shielding him from the realities facing Nigerians.
He claimed that instead of concentrating on solving insecurity and economic hardship, some aides are focused on convincing governors and politicians to defect to the APC.
Kwankwaso further addressed his political partnership with Peter Obi in the emerging coalition ahead of 2027.
He said the decision to align with Obi came after extensive consultations, adding that they considered him the most suitable candidate from the southern region.
The NDC leader stated that the coalition still has enough time to engage Nigerians and counter rumours being spread against them before the next general election.
He added that the alliance is determined to provide credible leadership and offer Nigerians a better alternative to the country’s current situation.
