The Ekiti State Government has declared Friday, June 19, a work-free day for public and civil servants across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, who said Governor Biodun Oyebanji approved the holiday to allow workers travel to their various communities and polling areas ahead of the June 20 election.
According to the government, the move is intended to encourage greater participation in the electoral process and ensure eligible voters have enough time to make arrangements before voting begins.
The circular, signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of Establishment, Dr Funke Ajibola, clarified that the directive does not cover workers providing essential services.
Hospitals, health centres, fire service departments and other critical agencies have been exempted from the holiday and are expected to continue operating as usual to guarantee uninterrupted services to residents during the election period.
