Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has dragged Adeniyi Adeyemi to court over alleged defamatory claims, demanding ₦15 billion in damages.
The suit, filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja, accuses Adeyemi—who is alleged to have operated the fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC)—of falsely claiming that Gbajabiamila requested a 48 per cent kickback from a ₦27.3 billion take-off grant approved for the organisation.
The legal action follows a cease-and-desist letter issued on July 6, in which Gbajabiamila directed Adeyemi to retract the allegations, delete all related videos, recordings, transcripts and online publications, and issue a public apology.
In the suit, Gbajabiamila is seeking ₦10 billion in general damages and an additional ₦5 billion in aggravated damages, arguing that the allegations were false, malicious and had severely harmed his reputation and the integrity of the Office of the Chief of Staff.
He is also asking the court to compel Adeyemi to pay ₦200 million as litigation costs, publish an unconditional apology in five national newspapers, and post the same apology on all social media and online platforms where the allegations were circulated for 30 consecutive days.
The case was filed through Pinheiro LP, the law firm led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kemi Pinheiro.
Court documents obtained by PREMIUM TIMES show that Gbajabiamila is seeking declarations and injunctions, maintaining that the allegations were fabricated and intended to falsely portray him as a corrupt public official who exploited his office for personal benefit.
