Germany began their FIFA World Cup Group E campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Curaçao 7-1 at the NRG Stadium in Houston.

The Germans were dominant from start to finish, controlling possession and creating chances at will as they sent a strong message to their rivals in the competition.

Felix Nmecha gave Germany an early lead in the sixth minute after combining well with Florian Wirtz. Curaçao briefly fought back through Livano Comenencia, who equalised in the 21st minute, but that proved to be their only bright moment of the match.

Germany quickly regained control, with Nico Schlotterbeck restoring their advantage before Kai Havertz converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1 heading into the break.

The second half was even more one-sided.

Jamal Musiala struck just two minutes after the restart, while substitute Deniz Undav made an instant impact, assisting Nathaniel Brown before scoring himself.

Havertz then completed his brace late in the game, with Undav providing the assist as Germany wrapped up an impressive 7-1 victory.

The statistics reflected Germany’s dominance. They enjoyed 65 per cent possession, outshot Curaçao 26-8, and recorded 62 touches inside the opposition box compared to just 10 for their opponents.

Germany also completed 633 passes to Curaçao’s 336 and created six big chances, converting four of them as they cruised to one of the most convincing wins of the tournament so far.

The result puts Germany in a strong position in Group E and underlines their status as one of the favourites to challenge for the World Cup title.
