Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has alleged that he borrowed ₦400 million to pay for the processing of his appointment.
Adeyemi made the revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, ahead of his planned arraignment on charges of forgery, impersonation and other offences filed by the Nigeria Police.
According to him, the people who lent him the money have since reported him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because he has not repaid the debt.
“I borrowed this money. In fact, those that I borrowed this ₦400 million from have reported to the EFCC. I borrowed this money to pay for this appointment,” he said.
“They have also written to the EFCC asking me to refund their money. So I’m not even yet to pay the money back.”
The Federal Government has maintained that the PFIPC does not exist and insists Adeyemi was never appointed to lead any such agency.
Reacting to the government’s position, Adeyemi argued that it was unrealistic to suggest he acted alone without support from insiders.
“It is unfortunate and embarrassing that the government is claiming that one man manoeuvred the whole system. The attacks against me have been sponsored,” he said.
He also denied reports claiming he was planning to seek political asylum in the United States.
“I read it the same way everyone else did. I ignored it because a lot of people have been sponsored to attack my social media. I’m still in Nigeria. I’m not going anywhere,” he said.
