Rapper Illbliss has come under intense criticism on social media over comments attributed to him regarding Igbo ownership of properties in Lagos.

The controversy started after the rapper joined an online conversation about the contributions of Igbos to Lagos, arguing that the ethnic group has played a major role in the state’s economy, especially in commerce and real estate.

“The Igbos have contributed immensely to the Lagos economy! Commerce wise! If you have a problem with it, hug a frigging transformer!!! We have made massive investments in real estate too!! Other tribes have contributed too. Why is it always a problem when it’s the Igbos? Why?” he wrote on X.

His post drew mixed reactions, with one user, @IgeOlusayo47761, accusing him of being ungrateful and telling him to focus on issues affecting the South-East.

The exchange escalated after a now-deleted post allegedly made by Illbliss surfaced online. In the post, the rapper appeared to boast about Igbo ownership of properties in Lagos while insulting his critics.

“We own your lands fool. We bought everywhere and renting it back to you. Thank you Lagos for the opportunity. You will pay rent forever in this city, bloody scavenger,” the post read.

The alleged statement quickly went viral, attracting condemnation from many social media users, particularly Yoruba netizens, who described the remarks as provocative and capable of worsening ethnic tensions.

Some users questioned why the rapper deleted the post if he truly believed in what he said, while others criticised celebrities who have remained silent on the controversy.

“This is what the average yibo think of you. Yoruba bastards like Omotara, Asiwaju Lerry, Oni story ofo will see this and still look away. Ask yourself, how many Yoruba celebrities have come out to reply Illbliss? None. They’ll still work with him while you reward them with patronage,” one user wrote.

Another user said, “Illbliss is a COWARD for deleting that Tweet. At least stand on your word as a man you claim to be.”

The controversy has continued to dominate discussions online, with opinions divided over the rapper’s comments and the broader conversation surrounding ethnicity, investment and coexistence in Lagos.
