The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates applying for Education programmes and some Agriculture-related non-engineering courses will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The board made the announcement on Monday via its official X handle during its ongoing 2026 policy meeting on admissions.
According to JAMB, “Candidates seeking admissions into Education Programmes and Agriculture non-Engineering Courses are now exempted from UTME.”
The update marks a major adjustment to Nigeria’s tertiary admission process and follows the federal government’s earlier decision to scrap UTME as a requirement for admission into Colleges of Education, particularly for candidates pursuing the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
With this new directive, affected candidates will now be considered for admission through alternative assessment methods rather than the traditional UTME examination route.
