The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lifted its restriction on SIM swapping and email changes, allowing candidates who have lost access to their registered phone numbers or email accounts to update their details through a controlled verification process.
The revised arrangement took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, and is targeted at candidates who can no longer access the telephone numbers or email accounts originally linked to their JAMB profiles.
JAMB Director of Communications, Fabian Benjamin, said the decision followed the introduction of enhanced identity and biometric verification measures designed to strengthen the process and reduce the risk of fraud, impersonation and unauthorised alterations to candidates’ records.
Under the new arrangement, candidates can access the service only once and must process their requests at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) or PTC/PRC centres, including applicable state offices.
“Candidates seeking the service must provide their new GSM number and/or email address and a duly executed court affidavit, scanned and ready for upload,” the statement read.
Candidates are required to log into their JAMB e-facility profiles, pay the prescribed fee for the service and visit an approved centre for biometric verification before any changes can be effected.
The Board said applicants may request a change to their registered GSM number, email address or both, depending on the nature of the access problem.
“The SIM swap and/or email change service shall be available only once,” JAMB stressed.
The examination body urged candidates to make use of the facility only where necessary and advised them to process their requests through designated JAMB centres rather than unauthorised agents.
JAMB said the revised policy was introduced to ensure that candidates who genuinely lose access to their registered credentials are not unfairly prevented from accessing their profiles and completing necessary admission-related processes.
The Board maintained that the enhanced verification requirements would provide an additional layer of protection while allowing legitimate candidates to recover access to their accounts.
