Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has completed a major investment in Liverpool after a consortium involving the billionaire acquired a 30 percent stake in the Premier League champions from Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
The transaction, reportedly worth around £1.65 billion, places Liverpool’s overall valuation at approximately £5.5 billion and ranks among the largest minority investments in English football.
FSG confirmed the agreement with 1892 Holdings, describing it as a strategic minority investment in the club.
British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, who played a leading role in negotiations with FSG, is expected to become Liverpool’s vice-chairman and take a seat on the club’s expanded board, subject to regulatory approval.
The consortium also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin alongside Bezos and Bhatia.
