Kenneth Okonkwo has said that any attempt by Peter Obi to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would be seen as evidence that he is working in favour of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the former Labour Party chieftain addressed speculation that Obi could quit the ADC if he fails to secure the party’s sole presidential ticket.

He argued that all presidential hopefuls in the coalition are facing internal challenges, and anyone who decides to leave under such conditions should be viewed with suspicion.

“If he leaves, will he now be a mobile squadron? Anybody, any presidential aspirant in ADC, seeing what everybody is going through in ADC, that leaves ADC for another party is a mobile squatter. That’s one.”

Okonkwo further claimed that such a move would amount to indirectly supporting Tinubu’s political interests.

“Then two, he is working for Tinubu. Because if all the coalition leaders are facing through all this crisis, even with unity, then what do you think one person can do going out?”

He insisted that leaving the coalition would suggest compromise, regardless of who the individual is.

“Anybody that goes out of the coalition is compromised and is working for Tinubu, whoever that person is.”

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, is currently among the leading contenders for the ADC presidential ticket alongside Atiku Abubakar and Chibuike Amaechi.
