Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his long-standing association with the opposition party.

Mimiko confirmed his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward 7 chairman in Ondo West Local Government Area, a copy of which was seen on Thursday.

In the letter, the former governor stated that his exit from the party took effect from April 10, 2026.

“I am tendering my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026,” he wrote.

Mimiko, who governed Ondo State between 2009 and 2016, explained that his decision followed growing speculation about his political status.

“Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position.”

He added that he had been largely inactive in party affairs, making it necessary to formally clarify his position.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP.”

He further stressed that his resignation was peaceful and not driven by any disagreement or hostility within the party.
