Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, the Kebbi State High Court judge who was abducted by gunmen last week, has regained his freedom and is back home with his family.

A member of the judge’s family confirmed the development on Monday, saying he returned home only a few hours earlier after spending one week in captivity.

“We are overjoyed and grateful to God for bringing him back safely. He was released today and has now reunited with us after one week in the hands of the bandits,” the family member said.

The family also extended appreciation to everyone who offered support throughout the period of his abduction.

“We sincerely thank the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the people of Kebbi State for their prayers, encouragement, sympathy, and every effort made on our behalf. Your support gave us hope during this difficult time, and we remain deeply grateful,” the relative added.

The source noted that the circumstances surrounding the judge’s release would be disclosed later.

“More information on how he regained his freedom will be made available in due course,” the family member said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kebbi State Judiciary nor the security agencies had issued an official statement confirming the judge’s release.

Justice Bunza’s kidnapping attracted widespread attention and concern, with many Nigerians calling for his safe return.
