Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has disclosed that authorities have commenced arrests of people accused of stopping luxury vehicles and creating disturbances along the Lekki axis.
Hamzat made this known during an interview with Nigeria Info FM, where he responded to concerns about the activities of car spotters and other individuals allegedly causing a nuisance around the road leading to Lekki.
The deputy governor described the activities as criminal and said the state government would not permit them to continue.
He explained that security agencies had already arrested several people, with some of those detained now facing proceedings before a magistrate court.
Hamzat also pointed to the presence of surveillance cameras along the road, saying the footage has helped authorities identify some of those involved.
He said the enforcement covers the stretch from Lekki and further along the Lagos-Epe Road.
The deputy governor said:
“It has started, as you can see, as we discussed, a lot of… That is criminal, and therefore we will not allow it. We will take a lot of them off the street.
“From Lekki all the way down. Well, a lot of people have been arrested, really, cause camera is a lot of cameras are also on this on that road and people have been seen and I can show you people some people are in the magistrate court today uh-huh that they were arrested last week, well towards the end over the weekend.”
