Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha dismantled Newcastle’s Champions League hopes as Barcelona overcame an early scare to secure a commanding quarter-final spot.

The 37-year-old Polish striker struck twice in quick succession, before Brazilian winger Raphinha added another to complete a 7-2 victory on the night—Barcelona’s 13th consecutive win at Camp Nou since returning. The aggregate score ended 8-3, leaving Eddie Howe’s side to rue a night of defensive lapses.

Newcastle had fought back in the first half with Anthony Elanga scoring twice to cancel out Raphinha’s early opener and Marc Bernal’s free-header goal. But Lamine Yamal’s stoppage-time penalty sparked a collapse, with Fermin Lopez, Lewandowski, and Raphinha capitalising to widen the margin.

While both teams struggled defensively, Barcelona eventually took control of the chaotic game, punishing Newcastle’s mistakes and capitalising on largely self-inflicted errors.

Howe’s team showed promise in the opening 45 minutes, but their defense crumbled in the second half. The Magpies, who last conceded seven goals at Arsenal in December 2012, now return home to regroup ahead of Sunday’s derby against Sunderland, with midfielder Sandro Tonali a major doubt for the fixture.
