Governor Seyi Makinde has introduced a statewide nighttime restriction on commercial motorcycle operators as part of measures aimed at improving security and combating kidnapping in Oyo State.

The directive, signed through an executive order, bars commercial motorcycles from operating between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Makinde said the decision was taken in response to growing security concerns, particularly the continued captivity of teachers and schoolchildren abducted by gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area.

According to the governor, the state government remains committed to ensuring the safe return of the victims and will continue to implement strategies designed to strengthen security across affected communities.

“The operation of motorcycles will now be restricted between the hours of 10:30pm and 5:30am. We will not relent until our kidnapped teachers and school children return home safely. Every day they remain in captivity is a painful day for their families and all of us in Oyo State,” he said.

The latest action follows the abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools in the Esiele community on May 15, 2026.

The attackers reportedly struck Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School during the operation, sparking widespread concern across the state.

The Oyo State Government says the new restriction is one of several measures being deployed to curb criminal activities and improve public safety.
