Less than three weeks after its inauguration, part of the LAMECO Flyover in Osogbo, Osun State, has been damaged after hours of persistent rainfall.
The 672-metre bridge, officially opened by Governor Ademola Adeleke on July 1, 2026, suffered structural defects after a downpour that continued for nearly eight hours overnight from Thursday into Friday.
Witnesses observed a section of the road surface sinking, with cracks appearing on the asphalt, causing motorists to slow down as they crossed the bridge. Traffic officials later blocked access to the affected area to avoid accidents.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, who urged the state government to quickly repair the damaged section before it worsens.
The damage also affected traffic movement across parts of Osogbo, forcing many road users to take different routes.
Operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps eventually closed off the affected section, restricting both vehicles and pedestrians while authorities carried out an inspection of the bridge.
