The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have issued a strong warning over the rising cases of terrorism, banditry and kidnappings across the country, threatening industrial action if the situation persists.

The organised labour leaders made the position known during a joint media briefing on the sidelines of the ongoing 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

They expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, insisting that urgent and decisive action must be taken to protect lives and restore public confidence.

The unions also dismissed reports by some state governors suggesting that discussions were ongoing with workers over a proposed ₦100,000 minimum wage, stating that such claims do not reflect the reality of negotiations on workers’ welfare.

According to them, the focus of current discussions remains the genuine improvement of workers’ conditions, rather than figures being circulated in the media.
